Riding the tube back home from Little Venice to North London last night, I found a discarded Financial Times Weekend lying on the seat next to me.
Thankfully, it wasn't the boring bits of the FT, but rather the nice House & Home section (and, as a journalist, one of my more favourite subject areas - writing about interior styles sure beats interest rates). Anyway, I started reading the cover piece by Caroline Taylor, whose intro started thus:
"If you’d asked me a year ago what I thought about internet blogging, my answer would have been pretty negative. Why would daily updates about a stranger’s mundane life – a tedious online diary – be of interest to anyone beyond their close friends and family (whom they could easily reach via e-mail, Facebook or MySpace)? When a friend suggested I write a blog about my love for home decoration, I laughed it off as a crazy idea. Why would anyone care what I had to say?"
Caroline since went on to launch her own blog, Patchworkharmony, and well, I guess her piece inspired me to launch my own too. I'm always lusting after something for my home, always glazing over the glossy pages of my favourite homes-magazines (Elle Decoration, Living Etc, Ideal Home) and always looking for an excuse to window shop at Heals, sighing because I can barely afford anything, except, maybe, a cupcake.
And so, thanks in part to Caroline, welcome to Her Little Place (My Little Place): a place to share my obsession for printed tea-towels and Orla Kiely doormats and all the little details that make a place (my place) a home.
