Headless

I have no headboard on my bed. This is namely because I have (a) never found one I like and (b) not really ever understood the point of them. So, in the absence of said headboard, I prop up my pillows and throw cushions all around. It's comfy and still looks great.
But I've been perusing bedroom pics, and they all have headboards - which is making me wonder: am I missing a trick? What do you think - to headboard or not to headboard?

I like our headboard but I don't think they're absolutely necessary. In fact, I want to redo our guest room without one because I like the look of beds without them.

Yes, I ultimately agree - I won't be rushing out to by a headboard, but I still like these pics! I like the freedom of being able to "build" one (well, you know what I mean) with lots of cushions, and I change the covers to suit my mood and to match whatever bed linen I've put out. I'm thinking I prefer the idea of not making the headboard the big feature behind the bed... preferring frames, pics, shelves... like in this one http://herlittleplace.blogspot.com/2009/06/is-it-just-me-or-am-i-seeing-yellow.html

I have personally never had a headboard, but I feel the need to get one now. I realized that every bedroom photo that I love has a headboard. I think I'll probably make mine though, because you can do it so easily (in most cases). I love the second from the bottom :]

Love the first pic... I've never had an headboardless bed (that makes me think of the headless horseman!) but it sounds like you have a good design opportunity there!

P.S. Thanks for your lovely comment – it's all a bit more bathroom-shaped this week - so I am somewhat calmer again!
