The cure for writer's block...

...must be a writer's desk. I'm lacking one, and if any of you read my interview on OndoLady's site, you'll know that I work in the worst possible places in the worst possible posture. So a new writing desk is in order. Since I can't afford a retro Ercol or this beautiful one from Made (which is too big in anycase), I've been in Islington this morning on a desk-mission. Consequently, I'm caught in schizo-design mode.

Should I go vintage with this 1950s oak desk at After Noah?

Or modern cool at Twenty Twenty One?

Or mix and match, with a vintage desk and modern chair? Votes please? I'm leaning to vintage myself...

I definitely vote for the vintage desk. I've already gone off and running and pictured just how it should be set up.

Vintage! Love that look!

I like them both (of course) but lately I'm much more drawn to warm woods and older pieces so since you're asking TODAY, my vote is for the first one. :)

I'm a fan of a modern desk with a vintage chair.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't have a desk either.

Thanks for the opinions. I'm still thinking vintage too...

Hows about designing your own ? I've got this horried Ikea Beach wood table which I'm planning to rub down with sand paper to give the table some texture and depth and then paint over with some antique looking paint....just a thought

@ El Fab Cap - gosh that sounds ambitious... would it really work? I've been offered an ikea beach table that's actually one of their small dining tables but it's that funny-plasticy looking wood that I don't know if it could even take antique looking paint (I am however revamping a frame with antique paint, watch this space!)

Wow, the beautiful Steuart Padwick one is a whole lot cheaper than it used to be. Definitely go for vintage, I think, though I'm always tempted to paint fine woods, to everyone's dismay.
